So, Diaspora started sending out invites. Jay got one and invited me in! Rather than bore you with a lengthy text description, I've decided to bore you with a video instead, so you can at least see for yourself what it looks like while I rattle on and on.
The aesthetic is different than what we've seen in past screenshots. It doesn't look as good, at least to me. At any rate, you're welcome to watch the video after the break and judge for yourself!
What do you think? Can this venture even get off the ground?

Despite the best efforts of the manufacturer and carrier, the T-Mobile G2 is now completely hardware unlocked. This goes beyond flashing ROMS and rooting, the phone is now wide open for development, much like the Nexus One, or it's namesake the G1. The methods aren't for the faint of heart, not even by a longshot, but I'm pretty certain that someone will take the lead and produce a semi-automated method that's fit for the above-average Joe.
In the meantime, it's an awesome read -- if only so you can see what the folks hard at work were up against. Since I first used one, I have said the T-Mobile G2 is one of the best Android phones made -- there was nothing I didn't like enough to not use it, save the ridiculous lengths someone took to prevent full access to the hardware. If you've been holding off for the same reason, or have the need to own your phone hardware, hit the source links. [XDA-Wiki via XDA-Developers] Thanks, theglock!

Sounds like tacit approval to us. And really, anything that brings Sony and Sandisk together on a future storage format should be seen as a positive step. Unless, of course, you're the SD Card Association or anyone who recently purchased a CFast card.Future professional photography and video applications will require memory cards with faster read/write speeds. The development of a new high-performance card standard with a serial interface will meet the needs of the professional imaging industry for years to come and open the door for exciting new applications.

If it runs Android, it must be rooted or at the very least, root must at be attempted. In this case, the Nook Color is the latest to fall victim to such guilty pleasures as you can tell from the above image. Congratulations! Your Nook Color just became a whole lot more useful to you, as long as you don't mind going through the rooting process that is. [XDA via Gizmodo]
